The finish layer on this drum is a very special Black Walnut wood. A friend gave me piece of old growth walnut board that came frome Arkansas. It was very dry, straight, and full of beautifully grained patterns. The heart wood even has a rose tint color to it. I got some really nice mirror-image patterns out of it. The digital photo shown here leaves much to be desired to show how rich this wood really is. The joints are v-grooved giving a nice paneling effect to the finished layer.
The tuning hardware is electro-plated in polished brass with a solid brass hold-down band, tuning nuts and thread protection caps.
The sound qualities are excellent. It has a deep vibrant bass reaching to a high ringing Doumbek sounding rim tone.
I had enough of this wonderful walnut wood to do this drum and the larger 12" diameter drum number #83-21D. (See Gallery Index). The two would make a great pair as they produce nice contrasting sounds played together. If you are interested in the pair give me a call and I will make you a better deal for the two.
