Drum #130-29D"Coco Bolo"
This is the 130thdrum in my D-series 12 inch diameter drums.
The drum shell is made up of five laminated wood layers. The outside finished layer is made from beautiful Coco Bolo wood. The wood has a rich natural orange, black, and burnt umber grain. The inside 4 layers are made from kiln dried Douglas fir for added strength.
I managed a very fine finish using 10 rubbed on coats of Polyurethane diluted with 20% thinner and topped with a coat of wax.
The steel anchor band and tuning hooks were electro-plated with polished brass. The tuning nuts, Thread Caps, and hold-down band are solid brass.
I form every thing in my shop except the electroplating. There are approximately 45 man-hours spread over a month to make this kind of drum.
The sound qualities are super. A rich and deep sounding bass, wonderful tones, slaps, and high ringing rim shots. Sound properties similar to an African Ashiko drum.
